Colombian President Gustavo Petro Holds Phone Call with US President Donald Trump

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Colombian President Gustavo Petro and US President Donald Trump held a 20-minute phone call, described as friendly by both sides. The discussion focused on drug trafficking and other bilateral issues, with Petro expected to release an official statement soon.
President Trump confirmed that Petro initiated the call to address concerns over drug-related challenges and ongoing disputes between the two nations. He praised the Colombian leader’s tone as constructive and expressed eagerness to meet in person in the near future.
Coordination is underway between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his Colombian counterpart to arrange a meeting between Trump and Petro at the White House. Petro, speaking to Colombian media, revealed this was his first direct phone conversation with Trump.
During the call, Petro briefed Trump on Colombia’s efforts to combat drug trafficking, pledging to seize 3,000 tons of narcotics by the end. He also urged the reactivation of direct communication channels between Bogotá and Washington.
Colombian television quoted Petro warning that the cessation of dialogue could lead to conflict, citing historical lessons. A historic meeting between the two leaders at the White House is anticipated in the coming days.
