China Criticizes US Withdrawal from International Bodies, Stresses Multilateralism

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning condemned the US decision to withdraw from dozens of international organizations, asserting that global institutions must serve collective interests rather than individual nations.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, China has sharply criticized the United States for its continued withdrawal from international organizations, emphasizing that such bodies exist to protect the shared interests of all member states, not to serve the selfish agenda of any single country. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, speaking to Global Times, stated that the US move to exit 35 UN-affiliated and 31 non-UN international bodies is not surprising but undermines global cooperation.

Mao Ning highlighted that the UN-based international system has maintained global peace, stability, and equitable development for over eight decades. She warned that recent global developments demonstrate the dangers of abandoning multilateralism, which prevents the world from descending into a ‘law of the jungle’ scenario where might makes right.

The Chinese diplomat stressed that multilateralism remains crucial, particularly for smaller and weaker nations. China reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the UN’s central role in international affairs and promoting a fairer global governance system. Meanwhile, the White House confirmed President Donald Trump’s directive to halt funding for organizations prioritizing global agendas over US interests.
