Trump Expresses Concerns Over Potential Repeat of Tabas Disaster in Venezuela Operation

U.S. President Donald Trump revealed his fears of a failed Venezuela operation mirroring the 1980 Tabas disaster, while openly discussing plans to exploit the country’s oil resources.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump, in an interview with The New York Times, expressed concerns that a potential operation in Venezuela could end in a manner similar to the disastrous 1980 Tabas incident, where a U.S. hostage rescue mission in Tehran failed.

Trump further revealed his administration’s intentions to exploit Venezuela’s oil reserves, claiming that reviving the country’s oil sector would take years. He stated that the U.S. plans to use Venezuelan oil to reduce global prices and financially support Caracas during American oversight of the country.

The U.S. President also asserted that there is no fixed timeline for American administration in Venezuela but confirmed it would last over a year. He emphasized that transitional authorities in Venezuela would comply with Washington’s demands.

Trump avoided answering questions about potential troop deployments to Venezuela but confirmed that Washington maintains good relations with current Caracas officials. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, he declared that Venezuela would only purchase American-made products using funds from a new oil agreement.

The U.S. government considers Venezuela and its resources as its exclusive domain and has demanded the expulsion of Chinese and Russian companies from the country.
