Lebanon’s Berri, Salam Back Army Statement on Weapons Monopoly in South Litani

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam have expressed support for the army’s declaration on weapons monopoly in the south Litani region, while condemning Israeli occupation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri endorsed the army’s statement on the initial phase of efforts to establish weapons monopoly south of the Litani River, stating that achievements would have been complete were it not for Israeli occupation of several points. Berri further accused Israel of obstructing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 implementation through its ambitions in southern Lebanon. The Speaker emphasized that southern Lebanon’s residents continue to demand army presence and support.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam praised the military’s efforts in completing the first phase of the weapons monopoly plan, stressing the urgent need for logistical and material support to enhance capabilities for phase two. He prioritized ensuring residents’ return to the Litani River area after achieving phase one objectives. Salam added that Lebanon’s government would accelerate reconstruction in the south following parliamentary approval of a World Bank loan, while continuing to mobilize Arab and international pressure for Israel’s withdrawal from five occupied points.

The Lebanese Army’s morning declaration criticized ongoing Zionist regime aggressions and occupation in southern Lebanon without proposing operational mechanisms to halt violations, while announcing advanced progress in the weapons monopoly plan.
