PersianGulf, Arab Nations Warn of Regional Fallout from Potential Aggression Against Iran

Arab states bordering the Persian Gulf caution that military action against Iran would destabilize the region and impact global energy markets, with repercussions extending to U.S. interests.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the interconnected security and economic interests of Persian Gulf nations with Iran make regional countries vulnerable to spillover effects from any conflict targeting Tehran. A report by Al-Mayadeen network warns that war scenarios against Iran—similar to orchestrated internal destabilization attempts—would disrupt Gulf states’ domestic stability and regional power balances.

Anonymous Arab officials told Reuters that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, and Egypt have warned Washington about the severe security and economic consequences of attacking Iran, which would ultimately affect U.S. interests. Geographic proximity ensures that organized chaos in Iran would inevitably spread destabilizing elements across borders, with oil-producing Gulf states particularly dependent on Iranian stability.

The strategic Strait of Hormuz—a vital conduit for 20% of global oil shipments according to U.S. Energy Information Administration 2024 data—faces disruption risks from Iranian instability. Saudi Arabia, the largest user of the strait, alongside U.S. imports of 500,000 barrels daily, underscores the shared vulnerability.

Escalation risks are compounded by Israel’s expanding aggression patterns post-October 2023, including violations of Qatari sovereignty and recognition of Somaliland separatists. PersianGulf Arab nations, despite historical U.S. alignment, face uncertainty about restraining unilateral Israeli actions.

U.S. military bases in Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Oman could become Iranian retaliation targets, as demonstrated during past tensions over Al-Udeid Air Base. Analysts note Washington’s decades-long reliance on manufactured threats to justify military contracts in the Persian Gulf, warning that aggressive policies risk opening unpredictable regional scenarios contrary to local interests.
