Syrian Army Gains Control Over Key Oil Fields Amid Heavy Clashes with SDF in Western Euphrates

The Syrian Army has seized strategic oil fields in Deir ez-Zor while engaging in intense battles with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near Raqqa, as both sides accuse each other of war crimes amid escalating humanitarian crises.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Syrian Army announced on Sunday that its forces have fully recaptured the Tabaqa Military Airport from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as part of their continued advances in northeastern Syria. Simultaneously, reports confirm the Army’s control over the Al-Mansoura Dam (formerly Al-Baath Dam) and the towns of Ratla and Al-Hamam near Raqqa.

The SDF, however, countered by stating that its forces are engaged in fierce clashes against Syrian government forces in Al-Mansoura, accusing Damascus of committing atrocities at the Al-Kanisa prison in Tabaqa. Meanwhile, Damascus alleged that the SDF and PKK executed prisoners, including civilians, before retreating from Tabaqa, labeling the acts as violations of international law.

Reuters cited security sources confirming the Syrian Army’s takeover of the Al-Omar oil field, Syria’s largest, and the Conoco gas field in eastern Syria. The Syrian Oil Company further reported government control over key oil and gas fields in Deir ez-Zor, including Al-Tanak, Al-Jafra, Al-Aziziyah, Tayyana, Jidu, Malih, and Azraq.

These developments unfold as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) urged Syria to halt operations between eastern Aleppo and western Raqqa, emphasizing dialogue and counter-ISIS efforts. Despite this, Damascus has intensified operations west of the Euphrates.

Humanitarian conditions in Raqqa have deteriorated, with SANA reporting the SDF’s destruction of the Old Euphrates Bridge, severing water supplies citywide. The Syrian Army also claims 64 SDF fighters surrendered in Al-Mansoura. Sky News highlighted Raqqa’s humanitarian crisis amid ongoing drone and artillery exchanges in Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa’s outskirts.

Media sources indicate renewed heavy clashes between Syrian forces and the SDF in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, with the SDF reporting battles near the Al-Thawra oil field, now a direct confrontation zone. Fighting has spread to strategic areas near Al-Rusafa, with western Raqqa under sustained artillery fire.
