Iraqi Official Hails U.S. Troop Withdrawal from Ain al-Asad Airbase as Major Step Toward Sovereignty

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Abdul Hadi al-Abadi, a member of Iraq‘s Coordination Framework Coalition, emphasized that the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Ain al-Asad Airbase in western Iraq carries important positive messages. He stated that the departure underscores a unified national stance against foreign military presence in the country.
Al-Abadi further noted that Iraq now possesses highly capable security forces equipped to counter both internal and external threats. He asserted that Iraq no longer requires foreign military bases on its soil, and expelling these forces will strengthen national sovereignty. The move, he added, demonstrates to the international community that Iraq enjoys strong security stability and relies on its domestic forces.
The official described the withdrawal as a promising step toward ending foreign military presence in Iraq, particularly at al-Harir Airbase. Iraq’s parliament had previously passed a resolution mandating the expulsion of foreign troops from the country.
