Venezuela Vows to Maintain Diplomatic Ties with Iran Amid Tensions with US

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Venezuela‘s interim President Delcy Rodríguez has emphasized the continuation of diplomatic relations with Iran, China, and Russia, asserting the country’s sovereignty. Rodríguez described the US invasion of Venezuela on January 3 as a ‘dark stain’ on bilateral relations but stated her government’s commitment to resolving the conflict through diplomatic channels.
Rodríguez, who was sworn in as interim president on January 6, also pledged to secure the release of kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. The US justified its military intervention as part of a counter-narcotics operation, but Venezuela and leftist governments in Latin America have accused Washington of treating the region as its ‘backyard’ and threatening regime change.
