Mazloum Abdi Heads to Damascus Amid Escalating Tensions in Eastern Syria

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has departed for Damascus to meet with al-Jolani. This comes amid escalating clashes between SDF forces and Jolani-affiliated groups in eastern Syria and west of the Euphrates.
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has issued a stark warning, stating that continued attacks by Syrian government forces could lead to a security breakdown in prisons holding ISIS detainees in Raqqa. Such an event, the administration cautioned, would pose a serious threat of reactivating the terrorist group’s networks, with catastrophic consequences not only for northeastern Syria but for the entire country, the region, and the world.
Emphasizing that protecting detention centers and refugee camps—particularly ISIS prisons—is a collective responsibility, the administration called for an immediate halt to attacks, adherence to international humanitarian law, and guarantees for civilian safety and critical infrastructure. It also urged the international coalition to recognize the gravity of the situation, fulfill its obligations, and take urgent action to stop violations by groups linked to the Syrian transitional government.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the region’s stability and countering terrorism, vowing not to remain passive in the face of threats to security in northeastern Syria.
