Venezuela Reaffirms Commitment to Diplomatic Ties with Iran Amidst Tensions with US

Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodríguez condemned the US’s aggressive actions while asserting the country’s right to maintain diplomatic relations with Iran, China, and Russia, as efforts continue to secure the release of kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Venezuela‘s interim President Delcy Rodríguez has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to sustaining diplomatic relations with Iran, China, and Russia, despite escalating tensions with the United States. Rodríguez described the US’s aggressive incursion into Venezuelan territory on January 3 as a dark stain on bilateral relations, emphasizing her government’s decision to pursue diplomatic avenues to resolve the conflict.

Rodríguez, who was sworn in as interim president on January 6, asserted Venezuela’s sovereign right to engage with nations worldwide, stating, “We have the right to maintain diplomatic relations with China, Russia, Iran, Cuba, and all nations. We are an independent and sovereign country.” She also pledged her government’s commitment to securing the release of kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

The US justified its January 3 attack on Venezuela as part of its anti-drug operations, an action that resulted in the abduction of the Venezuelan president. The White House has repeatedly threatened to overthrow leftist governments in Latin America, referring to the region as its backyard.
