Masoud Barzani Calls for End to Clashes Between SDF and Syrian Government Troops

Masoud Barzani, leader of Iraq’s Kurdistan Democratic Party, has urged an immediate halt to hostilities in Syria following a high-level meeting involving U.S. and SDF officials, while welcoming recent statements on Kurdish rights.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Masoud Barzani, President of Iraq’s Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), has called for an end to clashes between Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syrian government troops. Barzani revealed that a crucial meeting was held between U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Syria and the commander-in-chief of SDF forces as part of ongoing crisis management efforts.

The Kurdish leader expressed hope for a swift cessation of hostilities and urged all parties to return to previous agreements aimed at resolving conflicts and achieving stability among Syrian factions. Barzani particularly welcomed statements by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani regarding Kurdish rights in Syria, describing them as a positive step forward.

The developments come as Syrian television reported that Mazloum Abdi, commander of the SDF, has arrived in Damascus for talks with al-Julani, with U.S. Special Representative for Syria Tom Barak also expected to attend the meeting.
