Mazloum Abdi Heads to Damascus Amid Escalating Tensions in Eastern Syria

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has departed for Damascus to meet with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani. This development comes amid escalating clashes between SDF forces and Julani’s factions in eastern Syria and west of the Euphrates.
In a separate warning, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria cautioned that continued attacks by the Syrian army could lead to a mass breakout of ISIS detainees in Raqqa. The administration stated that sustained military tensions near detention facilities risk destabilizing security, potentially reviving the terrorist group’s operations—a scenario with catastrophic consequences for Syria, the region, and beyond.
The administration emphasized that protecting detention centers and displacement camps, particularly ISIS prisons, is a collective responsibility. It called for an immediate halt to attacks, adherence to international humanitarian law, and guarantees for civilian safety and critical infrastructure.
Furthermore, the administration urged the international coalition to recognize the gravity of the situation, fulfill its obligations, and take decisive action against violations by groups linked to Syria’s transitional government. The statement concluded with a pledge to defend regional security and continue counter-terrorism efforts against any threats to stability in northern and eastern Syria.
