UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Chinese President Xi Jinping underscored the importance of enhancing bilateral relations during their meeting in Beijing, marking the first UK leader visit to China in eight years.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a joint meeting in Beijing, where both leaders stressed the necessity of strengthening bilateral relations after years of tension. The meeting, reported by Mehr News Agency citing Al Jazeera, highlighted the shared commitment to deepening cooperation despite existing differences.

Prior to the meeting, Starmer told reporters that disagreements should not prevent collaboration. “China is a pivotal player on the international stage, and building deeper relations with the country is crucial,” he stated. “This approach allows us to engage in purposeful dialogue on contentious issues.”

President Xi echoed this sentiment, noting the current global complexities and emphasizing that China and the UK, as Security Council members and major global economic powers, must enhance their bilateral cooperation.

This visit marks the first by a UK Prime Minister to China in eight years, signaling a potential thaw in relations between the two nations.
