Lavrov: Legal Pursuit of Bashar al-Assad No Longer an Issue

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the legal pursuit of Bashar al-Assad has long ceased to be relevant, emphasizing decades of strong relations between Russia and Syria.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has declared that the legal pursuit of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is no longer a topic of discussion. Lavrov highlighted the longstanding positive relations between Russia and Syria, noting that both nations have expressed their willingness to maintain contact following al-Assad’s departure from power.

Lavrov further addressed al-Assad’s residence in Russia, stating that the issue of his prosecution has been off the table for some time. Syrian authorities, he added, abandoned the idea of trying al-Assad long ago.

The Foreign Minister clarified that al-Assad no longer plays any role in Syrian affairs and resides in Russia purely for humanitarian reasons. Lavrov’s remarks come as the self-proclaimed president of Syria, Julani, recently traveled to Russia and met with officials, including President Vladimir Putin.
