New Zealand Declines to Join Gaza Peace Council, Citing Alignment Issues with UN Charter

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon stated the country will not join the Gaza Peace Council, arguing its structure and mission lack full alignment with the UN Charter and would not provide clear added value.
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, New Zealand has officially declined to join the Gaza Peace Council, citing concerns over its alignment with the United Nations Charter. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon emphasized that the council’s current framework does not fully comply with international principles and would not offer significant added value to New Zealand’s participation.
Foreign Minister Winston Peters echoed this stance, noting that while some nations support the council’s role in Gaza, New Zealand believes its involvement would not bring practical value or direct impact. Peters further stressed that any international initiative for Gaza must fully adhere to the UN Charter and international law.
