Ottawa Condemns Trump Administration’s Meetings with Canadian Separatist Group

Canadian Prime Minister David Eby has labeled recent interactions between the Trump administration and a separatist group from Alberta as ‘treasonous,’ while the White House denies any formal support for the group’s secessionist agenda.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Canadian officials have expressed outrage over reports that the Trump administration has held multiple meetings with a separatist group from Alberta. David Eby, the current Premier of British Columbia, described these engagements as bordering on ‘treason,’ asserting that seeking foreign support to break up Canada constitutes a betrayal of national sovereignty.

The White House has not denied the occurrence of these meetings but emphasized that no commitments or endorsements were made. According to the Financial Times, U.S. officials have met three times since April with the group, known as the ‘Alberta Prosperity Project,’ which aims to secure a $500 billion credit facility should a referendum on independence succeed.

Several Trump administration figures, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bassenet, have voiced sympathy for Alberta, calling it a ‘natural partner’ for the U.S. These developments coincide with President Trump’s increasingly confrontational rhetoric toward Canada, including the imposition of tariffs and repeated suggestions of annexing Canada as the ’51st state.’

However, recent polling indicates that about 30% of residents in Alberta and Quebec support independence, with backing declining when the consequences of secession are considered.
