Rafah Border Crossing to Reopen for Trial Period After 20-Month Closure

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Rafah border crossing will undergo a trial reopening on Sunday, February 1, as announced by Ali Shaath, head of the Gaza Strip’s administrative committee. The crossing, closed for nearly 20 months, will resume operations with mandatory security checks for all incoming and outgoing travelers.
Israeli authorities confirmed their decision to reopen the crossing, with Zionist regime’s Channel 12 reporting that passenger movement will be coordinated with Egyptian officials and require prior Israeli security clearance. The network emphasized that only individuals who left Gaza during the recent conflict will be permitted to return, meaning the crossing will not be fully accessible to all groups.
The Zionist regime had completely sealed the Rafah crossing on May 7, 2024, during its military incursion into Rafah. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that the prolonged closure has resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 patients and left more than 22,000 wounded individuals urgently needing medical treatment abroad.
Additionally, thousands of scholarship students have faced disruptions to their foreign education due to the border closure.
