European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen Consults with Zelenskyy, Announces New Sanctions on Russia

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of this week’s peace negotiations, reaffirming Brussels’ anti-Russian stance and pledging further support for Ukraine.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on social media platform X that she had held discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The conversation, which took place ahead of this week’s peace talks, saw von der Leyen reiterate Brussels’ firm opposition to Russia, accusing Moscow of continuing its attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.

Von der Leyen also revealed plans to send hundreds of generators to Ukraine and proposed a €90 billion loan for the next two years. Additionally, she confirmed that the European Union would soon implement its twentieth sanctions package against Moscow.
