Russia Will Not Protest U.S. as New START Treaty Nears Expiration

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated that Moscow will not file any formal protests or communications against the U.S. as the New START nuclear arms treaty approaches expiration, emphasizing that Washington’s silence speaks for itself.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov announced that Russia will not issue any formal protests or official communications against the United States as the New START treaty nears its expiration. Ryabkov emphasized that Washington’s silence on the matter serves as its own response.

The Russian diplomat noted that fewer than 48 hours remain before the treaty’s official expiration, yet Moscow has not submitted any protest notes or formal requests to the U.S. Ryabkov added that Russia has taken all necessary steps in a timely manner, and the American side has had ample opportunity to respond.

The New START treaty, signed in 2010, was designed to control and reduce nuclear arsenals between the two nations, limiting each side to a maximum of 1,550 deployed nuclear warheads.
