Taliban Rejects UN Report on Rising Drug Use in Afghanistan

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Afghan caretaker government’s Interior Ministry has rejected a recent United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) report, which indicated a rise in synthetic drug use and substance abuse in Afghanistan. In a statement, the ministry criticized the international community for failing to support the country’s anti-narcotics efforts and claimed the report overlooked Afghanistan’s four-year achievements in drug control.

The ministry further stated that cannabis cultivation has been eradicated in Afghanistan and that synthetic drugs are being smuggled into the country from neighboring nations. The UNODC report had previously warned of escalating drug consumption trends in the region.
