Saudi Arabia Demands Removal of Yemeni Village Markers from Google Maps

Saudi Arabia has requested Google to erase border village markers in Yemen, a move analysts say aims to obscure geographical evidence amid territorial claims and alleged oil exploitation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Saudi Arabia has formally asked Google to remove markers identifying the Yemeni border village of Al-Kharkhir from its mapping services. Local sources confirm the village lies in a strategic border area near Wadi Hadramawt, a region of significant economic value due to its oil and energy resources.

Observers interpret this demand as an attempt to eliminate geographical identifiers and reinforce Saudi Arabia’s contested border assertions. Allegations have also surfaced regarding Saudi exploitation of the area’s oil reserves and construction of energy infrastructure.

Yemeni activists allege these actions were coordinated with factions linked to Yemen’s resigned government in Aden. Several legal groups in Yemen are reportedly exploring international legal avenues to challenge the move.
