Nouri al-Maliki Announces Readiness to Run for Iraqi Prime Minister

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Nouri al-Maliki, the former Prime Minister of Iraq and head of the State of Law Coalition, has announced his readiness to run for the position of Prime Minister. He stated that he defends Iraq’s sovereignty and national decisions, which must be respected.
Al-Maliki warned that retreating from positions under pressure poses a risk to the country’s sovereignty. He affirmed his determination to remain a candidate for the premiership, stating that the coalition is responsible for making the final decision.
He added that if the coalition decides not to nominate him, he would accept the decision with open arms. Al-Maliki assured that if he returns to power, Iraq will not face economic sanctions.
Regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s stance, al-Maliki claimed that Trump has been misled by certain countries and domestic actors. He clarified that the U.S. chargé d’affaires in Iraq did not ask him to withdraw his candidacy.
Concluding his remarks, al-Maliki expressed Baghdad’s desire for good relations with Syria, provided that Syria is cleared of terrorist training camps and centers.
