Japan’s Ruling Coalition Secures Decisive Victory in Parliamentary Elections

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Japan‘s ruling coalition has achieved a decisive victory in the general election for the House of Representatives, securing at least two-thirds of the seats, as announced by Japanese television on Sunday.
The coalition, comprising the Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Innovation Party, has so far claimed 310 seats in the lower house. This substantial win empowers Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi, who became Japan’s first female prime minister last October, to proceed with her agenda, including potential amendments to the nation’s constitution and decisions on budgetary adjustments.
Prior to the elections, Prime Minister Takaiichi had indicated her intention to resign immediately if the ruling coalition failed to secure the necessary majority in the House of Representatives.
The election saw nearly 1,300 candidates competing for the 465 seats. This electoral contest took place amidst challenges for ordinary households facing rising living costs, with major political parties pledging tax reductions.
Before this election cycle, the Liberal Democratic Party held 198 seats, the Japan Innovation Party held 34 seats, and the centrist reformist coalition occupied 167 seats.
