Venezuela Releases Juan Pablo Guanipa and Machado’s Legal Advisor After 18 Months in Detention

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Juan Pablo Guanipa, a close associate of Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, has been released after 18 months in detention. Guanipa confirmed his release in a tweet, stating he had spent ten months in hiding and nine months detained in Caracas, and emphasized the need to reveal truths about Venezuela’s current and future situation.
Guanipa’s son had earlier confirmed his father’s release. Guanipa was arrested in May 2025 on charges of electoral conspiracy after participating in anti-Maduro protests earlier that year.
Berkins Rocha, Machado’s legal advisor, was also freed after a year and a half in prison. His wife reported that his return home was marked by heavy security measures.
Reports indicate at least 18 individuals were released on Sunday, with around 400 political prisoners freed since January 8. These releases occurred under U.S. pressure and ahead of a proposed general amnesty law.
