Eritrea Denies Ethiopian Accusations of Occupation and Supporting Rebels

Eritrea’s Ministry of Information has issued a statement dismissing accusations from Ethiopia that Eritrean forces are occupying Ethiopian territory and backing rebel groups. The statement characterizes Ethiopia’s claims as a continuation of hostile campaigns against Eritrea.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Eritrea has refuted allegations made by Ethiopia, labeling them as fabricated and false. The Eritrean Ministry of Information released a statement rejecting the accusations from Addis Ababa.

The statement, responding to Ethiopia’s stance, describes the accusations as an escalation of hostile actions against Eritrea, which have persisted for nearly two years. Eritrea asserts it has no desire to escalate tensions, fuel crises, or worsen the situation.

This reaction follows claims by the Ethiopian Foreign Minister that Eritrea has formally occupied Ethiopian territory and is supporting rebel groups. The minister also condemned the movements of Eritrean troops inside Ethiopia and their joint exercises with rebel groups as blatant aggression.

The Ethiopian Foreign Minister expressed readiness for comprehensive negotiations with Eritrea, urging the immediate withdrawal of Eritrean forces from Ethiopian territory and the cessation of any cooperation with rebel groups.

Eritrean forces were present in parts of the Tigray region in northern Ethiopia during the Tigray War from 2020 to 2022 and have not yet fully withdrawn.
