ISIS Fighters Transferred from Syria to Face Trial in Iraq

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi security expert Sabah al-Okaibi confirmed that all ISIS fighters transferred from Syria to Iraq will be prosecuted in Iraqi courts. This statement follows reports published by Mehr News Agency.
Al-Okaibi noted that the trials are the result of an agreement between Baghdad and the U.S. coalition, which stipulates the handover of 7,000 ISIS members from Syria. Priority will be given to prosecuting those who committed crimes on Iraqi soil.
He further clarified that ISIS members against whom crimes within Iraq cannot be proven will be handed over to their countries of origin.
Previously, thousands of ISIS fighters had escaped from prisons in Syria during armed clashes between Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militants and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
