Mexican President Halts Oil Shipments to Cuba Amid Fears of US Retaliation

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that current oil shipments to Cuba have been paused. She stated that the government is seeking ways to provide assistance to the Caribbean island while deliberately avoiding any action that could provoke retaliation from the United States.
Mexico had become a key supplier of fuel to Cuba after Venezuela’s oil shipments ceased in December due to escalating sanctions imposed by the United States. Reports indicate that Washington has explicitly threatened to impose tariffs on any country exporting oil to the sanctioned Caribbean nation.
Despite the halt in energy support, Mexico continues its humanitarian aid efforts for the struggling island. Two Mexican Navy vessels carrying over 800 tons of humanitarian aid departed from Veracruz bound for Cuba on Sunday. Furthermore, President Sheinbaum committed on Monday to providing further support for the Caribbean island as it grapples with its ongoing economic crisis.
