Lavrov Stresses Implementation of Comprehensive Strategic Agreement Between Iran and Russia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has emphasized the critical need to fully implement the comprehensive strategic agreement between Russia and Iran, highlighting its importance for bilateral relations. The agreement, finalized during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Moscow, sets the stage for long-term cooperation across various sectors.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has underscored the importance of implementing the comprehensive strategic agreement between Russia and Iran. Lavrov, in statements reported by Ria Novosti, stressed that the conclusion and full implementation of bilateral agreements are vital.

The comprehensive strategic agreement between Russia and Iran was signed on January 17, 2025 (Dey 27, 1403 in the Iranian calendar). This document, finalized during the recent visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Moscow, outlines the framework for long-term cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including political, economic, energy, transportation, security, and international collaborations. This treaty replaces previous cooperation agreements between Tehran and Moscow.

Russia’s Foreign Minister also stated that his country is working to establish an equal and indivisible security architecture in the Eurasia region, emphasizing the expansion of practical cooperation in this area. Lavrov further noted Russia’s interest in establishing honest international cooperative relations based on principles such as mutual understanding, trust, and good neighborliness.

In recent years, particularly following increased tensions with the West after the developments in Ukraine, Russia has sought to deepen strategic relations with countries outside the Western bloc. In this context, the Islamic Republic of Iran has become one of Moscow’s key partners. Cooperation between the two countries is not limited to traditional areas such as energy, transportation, and regional cooperation, but has also expanded to sensitive security, military, and technological domains.
