Iraqi Prime Minister Confirms ISIS Prisoner Transfer from Syria as Necessary for Regional Security

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani affirmed that the transfer of ISIS detainees from Syria to Iraq was a unilateral decision vital for national, regional, and international security. The premier also voiced strong condemnation against recent Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank during a meeting with the Jordanian Ambassador.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani emphasized Baghdad’s commitment to the security, integrity, and stability of Syria during a recent meeting with Maher Salem Al-Tarawneh, the Ambassador of Jordan to Baghdad.

Al Sudani clearly stated that the relocation of ISIS prisoners from Syrian territory into Iraq was a decision made by Baghdad. He asserted that this action was undertaken specifically to ensure national, regional, and international security interests were upheld. The Prime Minister also urged relevant countries to enhance their cooperation regarding this sensitive matter.

Separately, the Iraqi head of government strongly denounced the recent decisions made by the Israeli cabinet concerning the expansion of settlements in the West Bank, including the cities of Hebron and the Ibrahimi Mosque complex. Al Sudani characterized these actions as a clear violation of international law.

In response, the Jordanian Ambassador in Baghdad expressed gratitude for Iraq’s constructive role in maintaining regional security and stability. The Ambassador also signaled Jordan’s readiness to collaborate actively on the issue of transferring ISIS detainees and to bolster joint efforts aimed at establishing comprehensive regional security and stability.
