Iraqi Security Forces Dismantle Dangerous Terrorist Cell in Anbar Province

Iraqi security forces successfully dismantled a dangerous terrorist cell operating in Anbar province following an extensive, year-long intelligence operation, leading to several key arrests.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraq‘s security apparatus has neutralized a significant terrorist cell within Anbar province after executing a complex, year-long intelligence operation.

Arshad Al-Hakim, the official spokesperson for the security agency, confirmed in a statement that security forces apprehended ‘Abu Ayman Al-Rawi,’ who purported to be the self-declared ‘Governor of Anbar,’ just as he was preparing to carry out a suicide attack.

Al-Hakim further elaborated that the subsequent security investigations stemming from this operation led to the detention of several other terrorists. These individuals held crucial roles within the ISIS terrorist group, including responsibilities related to transportation, logistical support, the construction of explosive-laden drones, and the management of chemical weaponry.

The spokesperson stressed that the security threat in Anbar has been completely mitigated after the main headquarters of the group was besieged, resulting in the self-detonation of two associates during the standoff. Al-Hakim credited the precise and covert intelligence operation for neutralizing any planned terrorist acts before execution.

This action follows previous reports where a security source within the Anbar Operations Command of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) confirmed the destruction of at least four clandestine ISIS underground tunnels in the western regions of the province. These hidden tunnels, utilized by the remnants of the terrorist organization for concealment and weapon storage, were discovered and destroyed during a swift operation conducted in areas situated between the deserts of Haditha and Nineveh.
