India Reaffirms Commitment to Expanding Comprehensive Ties with Russia

New Delhi has emphasized its strong resolve to further develop bilateral relations with Moscow across all sectors, according to a statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson. This ongoing partnership spans critical areas, including defense procurement and crucial energy cooperation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs of India, confirmed New Delhi’s commitment to the continued expansion of multifaceted cooperation with Moscow. This assertion underscores the enduring strategic relationship between the two nations.

Historically, Russia has served as a principal supplier of military hardware to India, accounting for a significant portion of the Indian Armed Forces’ weaponry. This defense collaboration encompasses a wide range of sophisticated equipment, from fighter jets and submarines to advanced air defense systems such as the S-400.

Beyond the military domain, bilateral cooperation in the energy sector remains extensive. Russia is currently recognized as one of India’s largest crude oil exporters, while long-term civilian collaboration is exemplified by joint projects like the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, demonstrating shared interests in nuclear energy.

In the current geopolitical climate, New Delhi is actively maneuvering to balance its traditional relationship with Moscow against its increasing proximity to Western nations and the United States. Despite Western pressure following the developments in Ukraine, India has maintained its ties with Russia, continuing to procure discounted oil imports due to the imperative of securing its energy security and upholding national interests.

Furthermore, the mutual membership of both countries in multilateral organizations, including BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), actively supports and strengthens the political and economic cooperation between India and Russia.
