Moscow Alleges Foreign Actors Aim to Incite Public Discontent in Cuba via Energy Crisis

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova asserted that external forces are attempting to exacerbate Cuba’s energy challenges in a bid to foster widespread public dissatisfaction. Moscow maintains close contact with Havana officials as the situation remains strained.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated during a press briefing that foreign entities are actively seeking to intensify the energy crisis within Cuba, holding the expectation that this will generate significant public discontent. The statement suggests a concerted external effort targeting domestic stability on the island nation.

Zakharova emphasized the seriousness of the deteriorating situation in Cuba, confirming that the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russian Embassy in Havana are maintaining continuous and close communication with local authorities regarding the ongoing challenges. This diplomatic contact highlights Moscow’s perceived involvement or concern over the crisis impacting the Caribbean nation.

Separately, addressing relations between Moscow and Paris, the Russian diplomat voiced skepticism regarding France’s true intentions for resuming high-level dialogue. Zakharova indicated that while Russia has never refused contact at senior levels with Paris, Moscow doubts the sincerity behind French overtures for renewed negotiations.

The Russian official further suggested that French President Emmanuel Macron’s expressed desire to restart discussions with Moscow stems primarily from an attempt by the French leader to insert himself into the ongoing negotiations concerning the conflict in Ukraine.
