US Representative Calls for Rethinking Unconditional Support for Israel

Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez publicly challenged the long-standing policy of unconditional U.S. backing for Israel during a speech at the Munich Security Conference, arguing for a conditional approach moving forward.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stated during her address at the Munich Security Conference that the United States must reconsider its policy of providing unconditional support to Israel.

The Congresswoman also directed criticism toward the administration of President Donald Trump, accusing the current leadership of attempting to resurrect an era of autocracy. She asserted that the Trump administration has steered America away from its traditional role in global leadership, thereby diminishing U.S. influence in Europe to the benefit of Russia.

Furthermore, Ocasio-Cortez commented on Trump’s apparent inclination to dominate the Western Hemisphere and Latin America as his personal sphere of influence. She maintained that despite the world entering a new era, the American populace does not desire a retreat from the rule-of-law system and will not abandon its commitment to democracy.

When questioned about the necessity for the next Democratic presidential nominee to revise the nature of U.S. military support for Israel, Ocasio-Cortez responded that the concept of full, unrestricted support, irrespective of individual actions, is illogical. She advocated that conditional backing represents a more appropriate strategy.

In contrast, U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Matt Whitaker, avoided a direct response to the debate. He reaffirmed that Israel is considered one of the closest allies of the United States.
