Algeria Cuts Flights to Dubai Amid Escalating Political and Economic Tensions with UAE

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Air Algérie has officially confirmed a reduction in scheduled flights destined for Dubai, a decision that underscores the deepening rift between Algiers and Abu Dhabi. Simultaneously, the national carrier stated that it will boost flight frequencies to destinations across the Asian continent and to other Arab capital cities.
This unilateral action by the Algerian government occurs shortly after Algiers formally announced the necessary procedures to abrogate the bilateral Air Services Agreement established with the UAE in 2013. Analysts suggest that this move against the UAE carries significant political and economic implications, signaling a tangible deterioration in bilateral relations between the two nations.
Algerian media outlets detailed that the suspended 2013 agreement covered crucial aspects of civil aviation, including the regulation of air traffic, the transport of passengers and cargo, and related ancillary services. Algeria intends to communicate its decision officially to the United Arab Emirates authorities through established diplomatic channels, as well as notifying the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
While Algerian officials have not provided a specific public justification for the flight reduction, regional experts widely attribute the decision to the mounting political and diplomatic friction observed between Algiers and Abu Dhabi over the preceding months. Prior indications suggested that these ongoing tensions would inevitably lead to a decrease in aviation connectivity between the two countries.
