Over 100 International Artists Support UN Special Rapporteur Against Western Pressure

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the endorsement letter from over 100 leading international artists and cultural personalities in support of Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, has been released in the face of mounting pressure from the West and proponents of the Zionist entity.
The letter, publicized by Agence France-Presse (AFP), confirms the backing of renowned cultural figures such as international actors Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem, Nobel laureate author Annie Ernaux, and British musician Annie Lennox. Signatories expressed full support for Albanese, positioning her as a defender of human rights and the right of the Palestinian people to existence.
Albanese has faced calls for her resignation due to her explicit remarks concerning the war in Gaza. The open letter stated, “Countless artists among us, across the globe, want power not to be the law.”
Other notable figures lending their support include actors Rosa Salazar and Asia Argento, Oscar-nominated director Yorgos Lanthimos, artistic director Kaouther Ben Hania, music star Latin Resident, and photographer Nan Goldin.
Previously, both France and Germany had urged Albanese to step down over comments in which she labeled the Israeli regime the “common enemy of humanity.” A group of French parliamentarians also sent a letter to their Foreign Minister condemning Albanese’s statements as “antisemitic.”
The French Foreign Minister followed suit the next day, demanding her resignation and characterizing her remarks as “appalling and shameful,” while the German Foreign Minister deemed Albanese’s position “indefensible.”
Albanese has been one of the most outspoken critics of the Israeli bombardment of Gaza and alleged war crimes committed by Tel Aviv, describing these actions as a “stain on the modern era.” She has consistently questioned the timing and rationale of government actions regarding the conflict.
It is important to note that UN Special Rapporteurs are independent experts appointed by the UN Human Rights Council; they do not speak on behalf of the United Nations organization itself.
