US Seeks Undisputed Dominance Over Europe Amid Continent’s Weakness, Experts Warn

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, analysts believe that in his second term, President Donald Trump has marginalized Europe internationally through actions such as threatening to withdraw from NATO, pressuring European allies to increase defense spending, attempting to acquire Greenland, and excluding Europe from Ukraine peace negotiations.
Many European nations, long-time security and economic partners of the United States, now perceive the U.S. as a serious rival and even an adversary. The European Union and its member states, despite diplomatic protests against Trump’s decisions—including heavy tariffs on European imports and threats to reduce NATO commitments—have failed to present a unified and decisive response. This weakness highlights Europe’s significant economic and security dependence on the United States and a lack of effective mechanisms to counter Washington’s actions.
In contrast to a weakened Europe, the U.S. has not only abandoned its commitments but is also pressuring current European governments or paving the way for their downfall by supporting right-wing factions in the region.
Agnès Callamard, Secretary-General of Amnesty International, criticized European political leadership, describing it as weak and mediocre at best. She stated that the key message from the Munich Security Conference was Europe’s transformation into an entity lacking backing, vision, and resistance to the American project. Callamard characterized the American project as predicated on European subservience and white Christian supremacy, asserting that Washington will continue its bullying as long as the EU and European governments pursue appeasement rather than resistance and fail to respond forcefully to threats and sanctions.
Chris Van Hollen, a Democratic Senator, echoed criticism of European leaders’ weakness, referencing remarks by Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, at Munich. He noted that European leaders, instead of defending universal human rights, listened to the “sweet song of blood and soil.” Rubio had declared in his speech that the global order could no longer be placed above the vital interests of peoples and nations.
U.S. interference in European affairs extends beyond security and political matters, targeting Europe’s digital regulations. Veronika Čunderlíková Ostřanská, a Member of the European Parliament, deemed the actions by the U.S. House Judiciary Committee against European digital laws unacceptable. She emphasized that Washington cannot intimidate Europeans, as they will protect their digital space and enforce their enacted laws. The U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s claim that the EU’s Digital Services Act threatens American freedom of speech arises while Washington views these regulations as an obstacle to American tech giants operating in Europe. Conversely, European governments are concerned about the U.S. manipulating public opinion through social media networks.
