New York Times Analysis: Netanyahu Deceiving US and American Jews by Exaggerating Iran Threat

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The New York Times published an analysis by veteran American journalist Thomas Friedman, who stated that the extremist cabinet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is deceiving both U.S. President Donald Trump and American Jews by magnifying the threat from Iran. This approach is positioning the United States on a path that effectively threatens its interests and the security of Jews worldwide.
Friedman called for an end to this trend, emphasizing that Netanyahu is attempting to keep Washington focused on Iran’s nuclear and missile threat, while his primary objective is to divert public attention from developments in the West Bank and Gaza. Citing remarks from former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, he characterized Netanyahu’s actions as a “violent and criminal attempt” to ethnically cleanse the West Bank and annex it to the occupied territories.
The author added that accelerating annexation in the West Bank and seeking permanent survival in Gaza is a reckless adventure and social suicide that will transform Israel into an apartheid regime. Friedman warned that the consequences of these actions will not be limited to the occupied territories but will also encompass the United States, as polls indicate declining support for the Israeli regime among young Republicans and Democrats.
According to Friedman, Israel’s problems are not confined to foreign policy but extend to domestic issues as well. Within the occupied territories, Netanyahu is accused of attempting to weaken the judiciary, undermine institutional independence, and obstruct investigations and proceedings based on the rule of law. This process is considered an “internal threat” to Israeli democracy, posing a more serious danger to Tel Aviv than Iran.
