Ukraine President Zelensky Says No Nuclear Deal Reached in Geneva Talks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Wednesday that no agreement was reached on key issues with the Russian Federation during negotiations held in Geneva. Speaking to reporters after the talks, hosted by the United States, Zelensky noted that while preparatory work had been done, positions remain divergent as the negotiations were challenging.
Zelensky identified the fate of eastern Ukrainian territories and the future of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, currently under Russian control, as sensitive unresolved issues in the peace talks. Earlier, Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation in Geneva, had described the negotiations as difficult but constructive and professional, indicating that the next round of talks would be held soon.
The third round of Ukraine peace talks was held trilaterally with representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Despite multiple rounds of negotiations, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine persists, with territorial issues remaining the most significant obstacle to an agreement between the two sides. Both nations are striving to gain the initiative on the battlefield and at the negotiation table by maintaining and expanding their controlled areas.
