Russia Affirms Cuba’s Strategic Importance in Latin America

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia‘s Security Council, highlighted Havana’s strategic importance to Moscow in the Latin American and Caribbean region during a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla. Medvedev stated that Cuba continues to be considered a key strategic ally for Russia among Latin American and Caribbean nations. The discussions between the two sides focused on the development and deepening of bilateral relations.
These consultations occur amidst previous statements by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who, during a meeting with his Cuban counterpart in Moscow, called on the United States to exercise restraint and refrain from implementing plans related to a naval blockade of Cuba. Lavrov rejected accusations that Moscow-Havana cooperation poses a threat to Washington or any other party, and declared Russia’s support for Cuba in safeguarding its security. He also stressed the necessity of resolving all issues through dialogue and exchange of views.
