Qatar Urges International Action Against Israeli Settlements

Qatar’s representative to the United Nations has called for immediate international intervention to halt Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank, emphasizing a staunch opposition to illegal construction.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Qatar has called for immediate international action against Israeli settlement activities, highlighting the ongoing construction in the West Bank as a violation of international law. At a meeting of the Arab Group with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Aliya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Qatar’s UN envoy, addressed the escalating measures by the occupying Israeli regime in the West Bank. She reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering support for Palestinian rights and articulated the nation’s firm rejection of illegal settlements.

During the session, the Arab Group conveyed its strong disapproval of the Israeli regime’s decision to classify land as ‘state land’ and its aggressive pursuit of land registration and settlement. This move was characterized as a dangerous development aimed at accelerating illegal settlement activities and imposing Israeli sovereignty over occupied Palestinian territories. Al Thani stressed that these actions constitute a clear breach of international law and undermine prospects for a just and lasting peace.

The Qatari representative, alongside other Arab delegates, participated in this diplomatic effort to ensure that the issue of rights violations in the West Bank remains on the UN’s agenda. The objective is to increase international pressure to cease policies that are altering the reality on the ground in the region. The Arab Group at the UN noted that the Israeli regime’s decision directly impacts the rights of the Palestinian people to their land and poses a significant challenge to the international legal order. This concern is particularly acute given the intensification of settlements and measures that deepen geographical divisions and restrict Palestinian movement.

In light of these developments, the Arab Group appealed to the international community to assume its responsibilities by taking clear and decisive steps to halt these violations. They urged for guarantees of respect for international law and the preservation of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to self-determination, an end to the occupation, and the establishment of an independent and sovereign state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Qatar’s participation underscores its consistent diplomatic approach, which prioritizes support for just causes and the strengthening of multilateral cooperation within the UN, especially concerning the Palestinian issue, a cornerstone of its foreign policy. The meeting concluded with an emphasis on continuing Arab efforts in international forums to bolster international coordination aimed at stopping the Israeli regime’s actions in the West Bank and advancing a political path toward a just peace.
