Human Rights Watch: Trump’s Return Poses Unprecedented Threat to Global Rights

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Philip Boluobion, Executive Director of Human Rights Watch, has characterized the prospect of Donald Trump returning to the White House as an “unprecedented threat” to human rights. He emphasized that the United States is experiencing a swift downfall of democracy, which carries direct international consequences.
In an interview with Euronews, Boluobion confirmed the worsening state of human rights globally but found the speed of the democratic system’s decline in America particularly astonishing within a single year. He stated that the Trump administration actively opposes all human rights structures and pursues a multi-pronged assault on American democracy. This approach, he explained, involves efforts to limit the independence of judges, journalists, academic institutions, and major corporations, while undermining faith in elections.
The organization’s annual global report highlighted operations conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in cities across the country, which included hundreds of violent and abusive incidents. Boluobion cautioned that the erosion of human rights and democracy in the United States sends a dangerous message to the world. He stressed that Europe is also witnessing similar attempts to “defame immigrants and minorities.”
Human Rights Watch urged countries worldwide to confront major powers, including the United States. The organization has recently experienced internal resignations, most notably that of Omar Shakir, the former director for its Israel and Palestine office, following a decision to postpone a report on the denial of Palestinian refugees’ right of return.
