Iran and Azerbaijan Set to Boost Economic Cooperation in Baku

Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development has traveled to Baku to participate in the 17th joint economic cooperation commission, aiming to expand trade, infrastructure, and energy ties with Azerbaijan.

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development has departed for Baku to attend the 17th joint commission meeting for economic cooperation between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, discussions will focus on key areas including trade exchanges, increasing trade volume, and joint projects in road and rail transportation, as well as matters related to the Ministry of Energy, electricity, power, gas, and oil fields. The minister expressed optimism for significant positive developments resulting from the concerted efforts of both nations.

Amin Tarfagh, Head of the International Affairs Center of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, elaborated on the agenda for the 17th joint commission, stating that it will commence in Baku. Both sides are poised to negotiate across all dimensions of bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on initiatives planned for the upcoming year. Ultimately, all agreements reached in economic, cultural, and other cooperative domains will be consolidated within a memorandum of understanding and signed by the heads of the joint commission from both countries.

Tarfagh highlighted that transportation has emerged as a crucial and expanding area of cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan, especially over the past eighteen months. Substantial progress has been made in cross-border transportation infrastructure, with ongoing enhancements in both rail and road networks connecting the two nations.

He further noted that continuous discussions have been held with Azerbaijan over the past eighteen months concerning land transportation processes and customs issues. Tarfagh anticipates that the current summit will provide a platform to address these shared interests, resolve any outstanding points, and facilitate smoother and more rapid trade relations between the two countries.

Cultural cooperation is another significant pillar of this partnership and will be a prominent topic of discussion during the current اجلاس.
