Eurasian Group Praises Iran’s Significant Contributions to Anti-Money Laundering Efforts

Iran has been recognized by the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG) for its participation in anti-money laundering and terrorism financing activities, exceeding expectations and demonstrating a proactive role within the regional body. The evaluation highlights Iran’s active engagement and contributions to the group’s development.

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Secretariat of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG), which periodically assesses the performance of member and observer countries to gauge their commitment and dynamism in implementing anti-money laundering and terrorism financing crime requirements, has reviewed the contributions of member and observer states to the group’s activities and development from November 2024 to October 2025 in its latest analysis.

This comprehensive analysis, evaluating the dynamism of member and observer country participation in the EAG, found Iran’s involvement in anti-money laundering and terrorism financing activities to be beyond expectations.

The EAG Secretariat announced that Iranian representatives actively participated in all technical and expert-level meetings, as well as general sessions and specialized working groups. This active presence facilitated the exchange of experiences and a better understanding of international requirements.

Furthermore, the National Financial Information Center of the Islamic Republic of Iran regularly submitted periodic reports on activities and progress in the field of combating domestic money laundering and terrorism financing, adhering to technical standards.

The Secretariat’s evaluation results indicate Iran’s prominent position among observer countries.

Based on the EAG Secretariat’s report, Iran achieved the highest participation percentage among 17 observer countries in the “Event Organization Participation” index, which includes formal attendance and influence in organizing seminars, training workshops, technical meetings, and specialized roundtables. Iran shares this top ranking with the United Arab Emirates, demonstrating operational readiness for a pivotal role in facilitating the group’s activities.

In the “Content Contribution” index, which assesses the quality and quantity of technical content, case studies, draft regulations, and policy proposals, Iran also secured a strong position. Alongside seven other countries, Iran demonstrated the highest level of participation after the United Arab Emirates.

In the final assessment of overall participation levels, Iran’s cooperation with the EAG Secretariat was described as “noteworthy.”

This level of evaluation significantly surpasses that of observer countries with “low” or “medium” participation. Following the United Arab Emirates, Iran has been identified as the second most active observer country in the EAG.

According to the EAG Secretariat’s internal measurement model, the extent of this participation falls between 50 to 75 percent of the defined full participation capacity, indicating a serious commitment and demonstrating that Iran’s activities have moved beyond mere compliance to active participation in policymaking.

This success underscores Iran’s consistent and practical commitment to international financial crime standards and its active efforts within regional forums.

This positive assessment from the EAG Secretariat carries multiple strategic implications for the Islamic Republic of Iran. It not only signifies technical compliance but also emphasizes the country’s political and practical resolve to play an active and constructive role in the region’s security and financial architecture.

It is anticipated that this trend of participation will continue with greater strength upon Iran’s official membership in this regional group.
