Nouri al-Maliki Affirms Candidacy for Iraqi Prime Minister

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Nouri al-Maliki, the leader of Iraq‘s State of Law Coalition, has affirmed his commitment to continuing his bid for the nation’s prime ministership. He explicitly stated that he has no plans to step down from his candidacy for the top executive post.
Al-Maliki’s assertion follows a report from Al-Arabiya television channel, which claimed that a quadrilateral agreement within the “coordination framework” would see al-Maliki’s nomination for prime minister rescinded. This alleged agreement was broadcast the previous night.
Previously, the then-President of the United States, Donald Trump, had voiced his opposition to al-Maliki’s candidacy. Trump had issued a threat that U.S. aid to Iraq would be halted if al-Maliki were to be selected for the premiership. He further contended that without American assistance, Iraq would lack the opportunity for prosperity and freedom.
