Iraqi Shia Coordination Framework Urges Kurdish Parties to Expedite Presidential Election

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Iraqi Shia Coordination Framework has declared its commitment to unity and cohesion, viewing it as a demonstration of loyalty to voters’ trust following the elections. The framework has urged members of the two prominent Kurdish parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, to expedite the presidential selection process to uphold national obligations in Iraq.
Following the collapse of Saddam Hussein’s regime in 2003, Iraq adopted a federal parliamentary system with power-sharing agreements based on ethnic and religious quotas. Under these arrangements, the prime minister is typically selected from the Shia community, the president from the Kurds, and the speaker of parliament from the Sunni Arabs.
