Russia: Ukraine Crisis Resolution Hinges on NATO Expansion Concerns

Moscow asserts that a resolution to the Ukraine crisis is impossible without addressing NATO’s eastward expansion. The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson highlighted Kyiv’s prior violation of a friendship treaty as a catalyst for Russia’s special military operation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that Kyiv had violated its friendship treaty with Russia prior to the commencement of the special military operation. Zakharova emphasized that this breach by Kyiv led to Moscow’s decision to initiate the operation. She also noted that no international bodies had paid attention to this violation of the friendship treaty.

The Russian diplomat further specified that resolving the conflict in Ukraine would not be feasible without considering the issue of NATO’s expansion toward Russia’s borders. Zakharova added that Russia would seek to resolve this matter through military or political means.
