Sudan Civil War Claims Over 30,000 Lives, Thousands Injured Amid Escalating Violence

Sudan’s ongoing civil war has resulted in the tragic loss of over 30,714 lives and left more than 44,000 injured, as detailed by the Sudanese representative at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Sudan‘s representative at a United Nations Human Rights Council session in Geneva revealed grim details concerning the impact of the internal conflict. The representative stated that since the hostilities commenced, 30,714 individuals have tragically lost their lives, with an additional 44,000 people sustaining injuries.

The United Nations has corroborated these figures in a separate report, noting a doubling of civilian casualties in Sudan’s conflict compared to 2025. Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, addressed the session, emphasizing the critical need for intensified diplomatic and political pressure to steer the warring factions in Sudan towards a humanitarian ceasefire.

Türk also issued a stark warning regarding the Rapid Support Forces’ attacks on El Fasher, describing the actions as a massacre that has claimed thousands of lives and constitutes war crimes. The High Commissioner for Human Rights has documented a significant surge in retaliatory violence targeting civilians across Sudan.

In response to the escalating situation, several European nations, including the United Kingdom and Germany, issued a joint statement condemning the violence perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces in El Fasher as war crimes, pointing to evidence of genocidal acts. These countries are reportedly planning to form a coalition aimed at preventing further atrocities in Sudan.

The British Foreign Secretary also commented on the developments in Sudan, calling for immediate international action to halt the crimes and ensure justice for the victims. The minister stressed the imperative of stopping the flow of weapons into Sudan and bringing the conflicting parties to the negotiating table.

Sudan’s civil war erupted on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, the two rival factions of the country’s military government. The conflict remains ongoing.
