UN Human Rights Chief Warns of Demographic Shifts in West Bank and Gaza, Citing Ethnic Cleansing Fears

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, has issued a stark warning regarding potential demographic changes in the West Bank and Gaza, emphasizing the grave risks of “ethnic cleansing.” He stated that Israel’s actions in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip, particularly military operations resulting in the displacement of residents, seem designed to implement lasting demographic alterations in these regions.
Addressing the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Türk articulated his concerns, saying, “A confluence of Israeli actions appears aimed at permanently altering the demographic makeup of Gaza and the West Bank, fueling anxieties about ethnic cleansing.”
The UN official specifically highlighted Israel’s ongoing military operations in the northern West Bank, which have been continuing for the past year and have led to the displacement of 32,000 Palestinians.
