US Navigates Strategic Impasse in War Against Iran

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the United States finds itself in a state of strategic confusion concerning the war against Iran. Data published by the Mehr News Agency, citing Global Times, indicates that Li Weijian, Vice President of the Chinese Association for West Asian Studies, stated that the U.S. has concluded that continuing the conflict could incur escalating costs, yet it remains unwilling to openly acknowledge defeat or the inability to achieve its objectives.
He added that increased military presence and demonstrations of power by the U.S. are less a sign of readiness to intensify the conflict and more an effort to manage perceptions and prevent damage to the country’s international credibility.
Li also believes Washington’s policy of “dual messaging” – speaking of reducing military operations on one hand while continuing or even strengthening military presence on the other – is pursued with the aim of maintaining pressure on Iran while simultaneously keeping exit routes from the war open.
According to him, this approach reflects a difficult situation where the U.S. can neither achieve a decisive victory nor accept a complete withdrawal without political and reputational costs.
The Vice President of the Chinese Association for West Asian Studies emphasized that Washington is currently attempting to balance continued military pressure with finding a way to exit the war, an effort that, in his view, is primarily aimed at “saving face” amidst a strategic stalemate.
