Yemen Condemns EU Sanctions Against Hamas and Islamic Jihad

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Yemen‘s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has issued a statement condemning the European Council’s decision to extend sanctions against Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The ministry described the EU’s move as contradictory to some positive European positions concerning the Israeli regime’s actions in Gaza, notably the stance taken by Spain, and also in opposition to large-scale public demonstrations across European countries in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The statement highlighted that the active participation of numerous European activists in campaigns such as the Global Freedom Flotilla, aimed at breaking the siege on Gaza, demonstrates a significant gap between European public opinion and the official decisions of certain European governments and institutions.
Yemen’s Foreign Ministry further assessed the European Council’s position as occurring simultaneously with the ongoing war and daily killings of the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip. The ministry noted that this decision was made while the Israeli regime continues its occupation, expansion of aggressions, and intensification of the blockade against the Palestinian population.
Regarding recent developments on the ground, the statement pointed out that the continued crimes of the Israeli regime in the West Bank, including land confiscation, establishment of new settlements, destruction of homes and farms, as well as daily arrests and raids, reveal the aggressive nature of this regime. The ministry also emphasized that the EU’s recent decision was made amidst escalating Israeli aggressions against Lebanon, underscoring the broader dimensions of the regime’s destabilizing policies in the region.
The statement concluded by asserting that the collective recent developments illustrate Israel’s disregard for all international norms, conventions, and laws. According to the ministry, this situation further exposes the true character of the regime and its supporters. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Yemen reiterated its support for the Palestinian people and Palestinian resistance groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, adding that such stances and decisions will not weaken the Palestinian people’s resolve to achieve their legitimate rights.
